CHATTOGRAM, Aug 29, 2025 (BSS) - Dope test has been made mandatory for candidates in the Chattogram University Central Students' Union (CUCSU) elections.
 
According to Election Commission Member Secretary AKM Ariful Haque Siddiqui, candidates who test positive in the dope test will not be eligible to run. The dope test results must be submitted along with the nomination papers.
 
The drug test requirement is not specified in the CUCSU schedule, but the results must be provided. Only the candidate will have access to the results, and they will be kept confidential.
 
Candidates must undergo the test at the university medical center after submitting their nomination papers.
 
Meanwhile, the election commission has also issued a draft code of conduct for the upcoming CUCSU and Hall Union elections, the first of its kind in over three decades. The 17-point code aims to ensure a fair, free, and peaceful election environment until the results are announced.
 
Key points in the draft code include restrictions on rallies and processions during nomination submissions, regulated campaigning hours, prohibition on microphones after 9 pm, and a ban on personal attacks, rumors, and communal incitement during campaigns. Use of vehicles for campaigning and voter transport on Election Day is only allowed with commission-approved vehicles.
 
Candidates must obtain written permission for rallies, and gifts or donations to voters are strictly prohibited. Only authorized personnel and voters will be allowed inside polling centers, with journalists permitted to photograph outside polling booths.

 Violations could result in fines, cancellation of candidature, expulsion, or legal action.
 
With nearly 26,000 eligible voters, the university community anticipates a transparent and peaceful election in October 12.
