DHAKA, Aug 30, 2025 (BSS) - Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Standing Committee Member Selima Rahman today said no PR (Proportional Representation) system will be accepted in the upcoming national election.

“The people will vote according to their choice and preference, and only that vote will be considered valid. PR system will not be accepted," she said while speaking as the chief guest at a discussion at the Jatiya Press Club (JPC).

Selima Rahman said, “We are currently in a difficult situation. Can you see? We can still hear the sound of footsteps of the dictators' accomplices. Attempts are being made to create chaos in society and disrupt law and order ahead of the election.”

In this connection, she said the interim government has been manadated to arrange the election as soon as possible.

Selima Rahman questioned, “Who are those helping the dictators' accomplices in various ways today? Where were they in the past 17 years?”

Today, a few political parties are once again trying to foil the upcoming election. We believe that, just like the autocratic government, attempts are being made to hinder the election process and maintain dominance over the people of Bangladesh. However, the people of Bangladesh will not allow this to happen, she added.

Mentioning the national election will be held on time, Selima Rahman said, “The election will be held, Insha'Allah, it will… The election roadmap has been announced. Many obstacles may arise, but the young generations who have always protected the country, will overcome those obstacles."

Joint Secretary General of BNP Advocate Abdus Salam Azad and Executive Committee Member Abu Naser Muhammad Rahmatullah, also spoke on the occasion.
