CUMILLA, Sept 1, 2025 (BSS) - Leaders and activists of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) here in the city today celebrated the party's 47th founding anniversary with a series of programmes.

To mark the day, a discussion was held at the metropolitan BNP office on Victoria College Road, with Cumilla Metropolitan BNP President Udbatul Bari Abu in the chair. The event was moderated by General Secretary Yusuf Molla Tipu.

BNP standing committee member Gayeshwar Chandra Roy attended the programme as chief guest, while BNP Chairperson's Adviser Haji Aminur Rashid Yasin was present as special guest.

In his speech, Gayeshwar Chandra Roy said the people are the true strength of the BNP, and no conspiracy can halt the party's progress.

Regarding the 13th parliamentary elections, he said, "A fair election is sufficient to reflect the people's verdict - there is no need for a Proportional Representation (PR) system."

Calling for unity, the senior BNP leader added, "I believe the interim government and the Election Commission are sincere about holding elections. However, sincerity alone is not enough. Even after the fall of fascism, concerns remain."

Following the discussion, a jubilant rally was brought out, parading through key areas of the city.

BNP leaders and activists from Cumilla and its affiliated organizations enthusiastically joined the procession.
