CHATTOGRAM, Sept 1, 2025 (BSS)– BNP celebrated its 47th founding anniversary in Chattogram city and its adjacent upazilas of the district today with illustrated programs, dominated by a colorful processions, rallies, discussions and floral wreath.
On the occasion floral wreaths were paid at the city’s Revolution Monuments (BiploB Uddayan). BNP and its affiliated organizations, as well as socio-cultural organizations, organized colorful events to commemorate the day.
The scheduled procession began from the city's Kazir Dewri area and concluded at the same venue after parading different important streets.
Hundreds of cheerful participants who gathered Kazir Dewri area for procession wore headgears and national flags, carried banners and placards, portraits of party founder Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman, Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia and Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman, party’s election symbol Sheaf of Paddy and chanted slogans.
BNP Standing Committee Member Amir Kasru Mahmud Chowdhury attended the discussion held in the afternoon at Kazir Dewri area as chief guest.
City BNP Convenor Earshadullah presided over the function while City Mayor Dr. Shahdat Hossain, along with BNP central leaders Mahbubur Rahman Shamim and Mir Mohammad Helal Uddin, Idris Mia, Abul Hashem Bakkar among others addressed the function.
Amir Kasru said on this day in 1978, Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman founded the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) formulating nineteen-point program which has been considered a symbol of modern , progressive and democratic Bangladesh.
He said, BNP won the parliamentary election in the following year and has governed the country four times since its inception.
“BNP is a liberal democratic political party that has been well-received by the people. It is crucial for BNP leaders and activists to uphold this positive reputation,” he said.
Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman played a key role in uniting Bangladesh and promoting development and introducing multi-party democracy, he said.
“Ziaur Rahman was a true statesman and his visionary leadership widely acclaimed at home and abroad”, Amir Khasru said adding that conspirators assassinated him to push the country backward and thwart out his success to build a resilient and self-reliant country.
After his assassination in 1981, Begum Khaleda Zia spearhead the party and led the party to come to power three times based on her bold role in defeating autocracy and capitalizing the lasting love to Shaheed President Zia.
Separate discussion meetings were also held in different areas in the city on this occasion.
Earlier, Chattogram City BNP unit paid tribute to the founder of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman by placing floral wreath at Biplob Uddyan in the city. The event was led by City BNP President Earshadullah and General Secretary Nazimur Rahman.
Besides Chattogram North and South District units of BNP chalked out detail programs to celebrate the party’s 47th founding anniversary.
Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal and various educational institutions in the city, such as Chattogram University, Chattogram Medical College, CUET, University of Science and Technology in Chattogram, and Chattogram Veterinary and Animal Sciences University organized rallies and discussions meeting on the day.
Party flags were also raised at the party's Kazir Dewri office and other party offices in different upazilas.
