CID nabs Sutrapur Thana Swechchhasebak League president in July uprising murder case

DHAKA, Sept 2, 2025 (BSS) - The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has arrested president of Sutrapur Thana Swechchhasebak League from the capital's Narinda area in the murder case of student leader Nadimul Haque Elem, who was killed during the anti-discrimination movement.
 
The arrestee has been identified as Sarwar Uddin Ahmed Mithu (55), son of Abdul Motaleb Sardar, a permanent resident of 81/1, M house, Narinda Road under Gendaria Police Station.
 
A team of CID arrested Mithu from his Gandaria residence around 1.45am today, said a police press release.
 
Earlier on July 19 last year, Nadimul Haque Elem, an active activist of the anti-discrimination movement and a former student of Sheikh Borhan Uddin College was shot dead at Patla Khan Lane adjacent to the intersection of Govt Kabi Nazrul College in Old Dhaka.
 
Ismat Ara, mother of the victim, filed a murder case with Sutrapur Police Station, making deposed prime minister Sheikh Hasina and 88 others, including the arrested Mithu with Sutrapur Police Station (DMP).

Currently, the investigation into the incident is being conducted by the CID, Dhaka Metro South Division.
