
RAJSHAHI, Oct 25, 2025 (BSS) - Health Service Division Secretary Saidur Rahman today said the National Heart Foundation (NHF) has been playing a leading role in preventing heart diseases in the country.
"Heart disease is currently one of the major health risks and causes of fatalities in Bangladesh, making the role of NHF crucial in prevention, early detection and improved treatment," he said.
Saidur Rahman made the remarks while addressing a view-sharing meeting with stakeholders as the chief guest at the conference hall of the 100-bed NHF Hospital and Research Institute (NHFHRI) in Rajshahi.
The Health Secretary also announced that the government's annual donation to NHF has been increased to Taka two crore from Taka one crore to strengthen the foundation's services in the region.
He added that initiatives have been taken to introduce modern technology, increase skilled manpower and add specialized ambulances to enhance cardiac care in the future.
Director General of the Directorate of Health Services Prof Abu Zafar, Divisional Director of Health Dr Habibuur Rahman, and Civil Surgeon Dr SIM Rejaul Karim also spoke at the meeting.
Prof Roish Uddin, Director of NHFHRI, Rajshahi, presided over the session.
The meeting was informed that a five-storey modern building of NHFHRI, Rajshahi, established in 2018, currently provides advanced services in cardiology, cardiac surgery, Intensive Care Unit (ICU), and Coronary Care Unit (CCU).
Secretary Saidur Rahman expressed hope that the hospital's services would be further expanded soon for the benefit of the people in the region.
