DHAKA, Nov 22, 2025 (BSS) - National Citizen Party (NCP) Convener Nahid Islam said conspiracies being hatched to rehabilitate the Awami League under the name of the Jatiya Party ahead of the upcoming national election.

"The interim government's post-5 August initiatives did not include the Jatiya Party in any consultative process. Consensus commission formed after 5 August did not invite the Jatiya Party, nor was the party included in the Election Commission's dialogue. On what basis will they participate in the election," he said.

Nahid was addressing a rally following a protest procession demanding the execution of the tribunal verdict against fallen fascist Sheikh Hasina, at Shahbagh intersection this evening.

Nahid said, "The July Charter did not include them (Jatiya Party) anywhere, yet we hear they will be invited to contest the polls. This is a conspiracy, and the NCP will resist it in the streets."

Nahid reiterated that the NCP had taken to the streets with three clear demands. "First, Sheikh Hasina must be brought back to the country to ensure immediate execution of the verdict. Second, not only Sheikh Hasina, the Awami League as a party must face trial. Third, the Jatiya Party and all other allies of the Awami League must also be brought under trial as equal offenders," he said.

Referring to the tribunal verdict sentencing Sheikh Hasina, Nahid said the ruling was not political revenge but justice for Bangladesh's long-oppressed people. He said the NCP had been on the streets in July and August to establish that justice, and urged the next government to begin necessary diplomatic efforts to bring the former prime minister back.

He urged political parties not to compromise with the July uprising or hinder the ongoing judicial process. "If anyone betrays the people by making deals over justice, the citizens of Bangladesh will never forgive you," he said.

Nahid said Bangladesh had been exploited by India for the past 50 years, and that the Awami League's authoritarian rule was maintained with India's direct and indirect support.

"We urge the Indian government if you truly seek a constructive relationship with Bangladesh, send Sheikh Hasina back immediately," he said.

Citing the extradition treaty between the two countries, he said India could not obstruct the return of an accused person if Bangladesh formally requested it.

He also appealed to the people and students of India not to give shelter to any mass-murderer and to stand in solidarity with Bangladesh's demand for justice.

Nahid said the NCP wanted to ensure that the trials of July-August killings, including those involving police and armed groups, continue even after the election and that all political parties must pledge to uphold the process.

He reaffirmed the party's commitment to reform and justice, saying the sacrifices of the martyrs and injured protesters would not be forgotten. "The government must remain firm. The people must stay on the streets until the verdict is fully executed," he added.

Nahid said the NCP would continue its movement and participate in the election but would remain uncompromising on the questions of justice and reform. "Any political party that chooses compromise will face a strong stance from the NCP," he said.

NCP Member Secretary Akhter Hossain, Senior Joint Convener Ariful Islam Adeeb, Joint Convenor Dr Tasnim Jara, NCP Chief Coordinator Nasiruddin Patwary, Jatiya Chhatra Shakti president Zahid Ahsan and General Secretary Abu Bakar Majumdar were also present at the event.
