DHAKA, Dec 5, 2025 (BSS)- Rajdhani Unnayan Katripakkha (RAJUK) Chairman Engineer Md Riazul Islam today said more than one organizations are entrusted with the duties to look into the earthquake aspects of a building in the Dhaka city.

He said now it’s the duty of Rajuk to give approval to the building design as well as supervision. However, the duty of supervision might be given to any other organization which could be more logical and effective, he observed.

Rajuk chairman said this while addressing a debate competition organized by Debate for Democracy in the city on responsibility of building owners to reduce earthquake damages in the city.

He said that the owner of the building damaged in an earthquake on November 21 last at Kasaituli is yet to be find out. However, building owners in that area are cooperating with RAJUK to solve their problems.
 
The chairman said the electricity metres of the illegal buildings are being confiscated. “If it doesn’t work, cases are being filed and buildings are being demolished,” he said.

Islam said RAJUK’s has adopted zero tolerance policy against any irregularities and corruption and taking initiative for departmental investigations against corrupt officials and employees.

He said that action is being taken against engineers and architects who are signing building designs without being ensured about their fitness.

In the debater competition Shaheed Bir-Uttam Lt Anwar Girls School and College defeated St Joseph Higher Secondary School. 

Participating teams were given trophies, crests and certificates.

Professor Abu Muhammad Rais, journalist Mainul Alam, journalist Masud Karim, journalist Saidul Islam and journalist Dr Shakila Jasmine were th e adjudicators.
