Eight MP candidates withdraw their candidacies in Rangpur

RANGPUR, Jan 20, 2026 (BSS) - Eight MP candidates nominated by different 
political parties for four seats in Rangpur district today withdrew their 
nominations to not contest the 13th Jatiya Sangsad (JS) elections. 

Candidates from the National Citizens Party (NCP), Khelafat Majlish, 
Bangladesh Khelafat Majlish and Gano Adhikar Parishad are among those who 
withdrew their candidacies due to alliance seat agreements. 

The candidates withdrew their nominations from District Returning Officer and 
Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Enamul Ahsan. 

District Returning Officer and Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Enamul Ahsan and 
District Election Officer Md Abdur Rahim confirmed the withdrawal of 
candidacies to local journalists tonight.
 
The withdrawers in the Rangpur-1 (Gangachara Upazila and part of Rangpur 
City) constituency are Mominur Rahman of Bangladesh Khelafat Majlish, Md Al 
Mamun of NCP and Hanifur Rahman of Gano Adhikar Parishad. 
 
In the Rangpur-3 (Sadar and part of Rangpur City), Md Touhidur Rahman Mandal 
of Khelafat Majlish and Nur Alam Siddiqui of Bangladesh Khelafat Majlish. 
 
In the Rangpur-5 (Mithapukur) constituency, Anwar Hossain of Bangladesh 
Khelafat Majlish and Mominul Islam of Bangladesh Samajtantrik Dal (BSD). 

Muhammad Mahbubur Rahman of Bangladesh Khelafat Majlish has withdrawn his 
nomination from Rangpur-6 (Pirganj) constituency. 
 
However, no candidate has withdrawn from Rangpur-2 (Taraganj and Badarganj) 
and Rangpur-4 (Kawnia and Pirgachha) constituencies.
 
District Returning Officer and Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Enamul Ahsan told 
BSS that a total of 56 candidates have submitted their nomination papers for 
six parliamentary constituencies in Rangpur district. 
 
During the scrutiny, 44 of them were declared valid and 12 were declared 
invalid. 

Later, three more candidates appealed to the Election Commission and restored 
their candidatures.

 After eight candidates withdrew their nominations today, a total of 36 
candidates remain in the fray in six parliamentary constituencies in Rangpur 
district.
