DHAKA, Feb 9, 2026 (BSS) - National Citizen Party (NCP) spokesperson and chairman of the party's election steering committee Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuiyan today said they do not want sudden or "surprise" decisions from the Election Commission, citing the recent mobile phone ban at polling stations.

"As we have repeatedly emphasized, our main priority is to fully cooperate with the Election Commission and the government to ensure a free, fair, and neutral election. We are doing our utmost to support this," he told journalists after a meeting with Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM. Nasir Uddin at the Election Commission at Agargaon.

Referring to the mobile phone issue raised on Sunday, he added, "We discussed such surprise matters with the commission today. I believe if the Election Commission avoids such communication gaps and sudden decisions in the future, we can move closer to a smooth and fair election."

He also expressed concern over unaddressed complaints, saying, "Our candidates have submitted written complaints to various officials, but we are yet to receive any response. There should have been an Election Commission task force to resolve these complaints promptly."

Highlighting the need for coordination, Asif Mahmud said, "The commission alone cannot know the background of every official. We expected timely decisions through coordination with the Ministry of Public Administration and the Ministry of Home Affairs, which we did not receive."

However, today we presented the commission with specific complaints and details about officials, and we hope for prompt action, he said.

On the presence of the Bangladesh National Cadet Corps (BNCC) at polling stations, he added, "We heard concerns about not allowing BNCC personnel at polling stations. The commission has now said it is reconsidering the matter. Our clear demand remains that BNCC should be deployed, as their presence will help maintain law and order during this slightly different election process."

The 11-party alliance, including Jamaat-e-Islami, met with the CEC this afternoon. Jamaat's Assistant Secretary General and head of its media and publicity department Advocate Ahsanul Mahboob Zubair was also present.
