DHAKA, Feb 24, 2026 (BSS) - BanglaFact, the fact-checking and media research wing of the Press Institute of Bangladesh (PIB), has identified a misleading campaign on social media using a video from Nepal to target the BNP.

According to BanglaFact, the video being circulated with claims that a BNP leader beat an elderly man is not related to Bangladesh. The incident actually occurred in Kathmandu, Nepal.

The video has been shared on Facebook alleging that a BNP leader assaulted an old man after hitting him.

The organisation said that since the 2024 Mass Uprising, sections of Indian media, India-based social media accounts and some local Facebook pages have been spreading misinformation about Bangladesh, particularly targeting the just-concluded interim government and parties and organisations involved in the Mass Uprising.

BanglaFact added that attempts to spread rumours and false information on recent issues are also being detected.
