MANIKGANJ, March 3, 2026 (BSS) - Ferry services on the Paturia-Daulatdia route resumed this morning after remaining suspended for four hours due to dense fog.

According to BIWTC Paturia Ghat sources, ferry movement on the route was halted at around 5:50 am as thick fog reduced visibility on the river, disrupting navigation.

Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) Paturia Ghat Deputy General Manager (DGM) Abdus Salam said authorities suspended ferry movement to avoid any untoward incidents.

During the suspension, seven ferries - Bir Shreshtha Jahangir, Kumilla, Shah Keramat Ali, Shah Mokdum, Shah Paran, Bhaigar and Bonolota - remained stranded at Paturia Ghat.

Meanwhile, three ferries - Language Martyr Borkat, Golam Maula and Hasna Hena - were stranded midstream in the Padma River with vehicles and passengers on board, he added.

Ferry movement resumed at 9:50 am after improvement in visibility, officials said.

All ferries are now operating normally with full loads to ease traffic congestion on both terminals, the DGM added.
