Probe report in graft case against Prof Kalimullah, others on May 20

DHAKA, March 3, 2026 (BSS) - A court here today set May 20 for submitting the probe report in a graft case against five individuals, including former Vice-Chancellor (VC) of Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur (BRUR) Professor Nazmul Ahsan Kalimullah.

Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Sabbir Faiz passed the order as the investigation agency, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), failed to submit the probe report today.

On July 18, 2025, ACC Assistant Director Minhaz Bin-Islam filed the case alleging embezzlement of funds from the BRUR development project.

The other accused of the case are-- former VC and project director of the university Prof AKM Nurunnabi, former executive engineer and a member of the tender evaluation committee Jahangir Alam and two contractors-- Abdus Salam Bachhu and M M Habibur Rahman.

A team of the Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police arrested Prof Kalimullah from his Mohammadpur residence on August 7 last. Later, he was also taken on a five-day police remand in connection with the case on August 27, 2025.
