Man gets imprisonment till death in rape case

DHAKA, Mar 12, 2026 (BSS) – A court here today convicted and sentenced Jahangir Hossain, 32, to imprisonment till natural death and fined him Taka two lakh in a case filed over raping a woman on the false promise of marriage.

Judge Munshi Md Moshiar Rahman of Dhaka Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-4 pronounced the judgment this afternoon.

According to the case documents, the victim had prior acquaintance with Jahangir Hossain. After the victim’s husband died, the accused developed a romantic relationship with her by assuring marriage.

On January 15, 2017, and most recently on January 27, 2019, he allegedly raped her multiple times at a house in the Ibrahimpur area under Kafrul Police Station in the capital by luring her with a promise of marriage. Later, when the victim became pregnant, the accused refused to marry her. Following the incident, the victim filed the case with Kafrul Police Station in February 2019.

During the investigation of the case, the victim gave birth to a baby boy. Following a court order, DNA tests of the newborn and the accused were conducted. The test confirmed that Md Jahangir Hossain was the biological father of the child.

After completing the investigation, police submitted a charge sheet against the accused to the court on November 24, 2019.

During the trial, five witnesses testified before the court at different times.
