
DHAKA, March 17, 2026 (BSS) - Ahead of the Eid-ul-Fitr, financial grants were distributed among the cleaners of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) and the imams and muezzins of the corporation area.
The grants were handed over at two separate events held at Nagar Bhaban by DSCC Administrator and freedom fighter Md. Abdus Salam as chief guest.
According to the officials, the Prime Minister’s office allocated Taka 24.75 million for 4,950 cleaners of the DSCC, with each worker received Taka 5,000 as an Eid gift. The administrator formally distributed the funds among the workers.
Addressing the event, he said that just as the Prime Minister had presented them with an Eid gift, they should in return contribute by giving the city a “Clean City, Green City.”
Separately, DSCC also distributed Eid grants to imams and muezzins from its own funds. Under the programme, 1,870 imams received Taka 3,000 each, while 1,870 muezzins received Taka 1,500 each, amounting to a total of Taka 8.415 million.
Speaking to the imams and muezzins, the administrator urged them to play a leading role in raising public awareness about proper waste management and mosquito control across the city.
Among others, DSCC Chief Executive Officer Md. Zahirul Islam, Secretary Mohammad Nasim Ahmed and Chief Waste Management Officer Air Commodore Mahabubur Rahman Talukdar, along with other senior officials of the corporation, were present at both the occasions.
