DHAKA, March 30, 2026 (BSS) - The Detective Branch (DB) of police has arrested a youth accused of running a sophisticated online fraud scheme by creating fake facebook accounts using the names and photos of senior government officials and high-ranking police officers.

The arrested person has been identified as Md. Ripon (23).

According to a press release of DB of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), an organized fraud syndicate had been actively deceiving common people for a long time by opening fake facebook IDs impersonating prominent figures, including senior police officers and influential government officers.

Acting on specific intelligence, a DB team conducted a drive around 4:30pm today in front of the cancer building of Bangladesh Medical Hospital University (popularly known as PG Hospital) under Shahbagh Police Station area, where Ripon was apprehended.

During the arrest, law enforcement officials recovered two mobile phones from his possession.

Upon forensic analysis of the devices, investigators found a fake facebook account named “Doctor. Ayesha Khatun” logged in.

The account was being used to post misleading content and impersonate important government officers, including the Inspector General of Police (IGP), to gain trust and exploit victims.

During initial interrogation, Ripon confessed that he had been involved in this fraudulent activity for a long time with the assistance of his associates.

Law enforcement officials have confirmed that legal action is currently underway against the accused, and further investigations are ongoing to identify and arrest other members of the fraud network.
