DMP files 1,466 cases for traffic law violations

DHAKA, April 2, 2026 (BSS) - The Traffic Division of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has filed a total of 1,466 cases against traffic law violators during a day-long drive across different areas of the capital.

According to a DMP press release, the drive was conducted on Wednesday to ensure traffic discipline throughout Dhaka.

Among the divisions, Traffic-Motijheel recorded the highest number of cases with 373, including violations involving buses, trucks, covered vans, CNG-run auto-rickshaws, and motorcycles. 

Traffic-Uttara followed with 211 cases, while Traffic-Gulshan filed 238 cases, including a significant number of buses.

In Traffic-Ramna, 110 cases were filed, involving buses, covered vans, CNG vehicles, and motorcycles. 

Traffic-Lalbagh also recorded 110 cases, including violations by buses, trucks, covered vans, CNGs, and motorcycles. Meanwhile, Traffic-Wari filed 129 cases across similar vehicle categories.

Traffic-Tejgaon division filed 190 cases, while Traffic-Mirpur recorded 95 cases, the majority of which involved battery-powered rickshaws.

During the drive, authorities also took enforcement actions against vehicles, dumping 343 and wrecking 93 for various violations.

Officials said the operation is part of DMP's ongoing efforts to improve road discipline and reduce traffic congestion in the metropolitan area. 

The Traffic Division has confirmed that such drives will continue to ensure compliance with traffic laws.
