DHAKA, Apr 5, 2026 (BSS) - Rescue operations at the site of the devastating fire in the Kadamtali Gol Chattar area of Keraniganj have officially been declared over at 6:00 pm today, following hours of intensive efforts by emergency responders.

The blaze, which broke out at a tin-shed gas lighter factory, left at least six people dead during the initial stages of the incident.

Members of the Fire Service and Civil Defence carried out a thorough search operation after bringing the fire under control earlier in the afternoon. 

Rescue teams, supported by law enforcement agencies and local volunteers, worked meticulously to clear the wreckage while maintaining strict safety measures due to the unstable structure.

Firefighters used specialized equipment to sift through the debris, ensuring no victims remained trapped beneath the collapsed portions of the factory. 

Authorities confirmed that after completing multiple layers of search and verification, no additional bodies or survivors were found, leading to the formal conclusion of the rescue mission.

At least two injured individuals had been rescued earlier and taken to nearby hospitals for treatment, though their conditions have not yet been officially disclosed.

Meanwhile, a five-member investigation committee has already begun its work to determine the cause of the fire and identify any potential safety lapses. 

The probe is being conducted alongside relevant authorities to ensure accountability and prevent similar incidents in the future.

Officials reiterated that the priority now shifts to investigation and recovery, while urging the public to stay away from the affected area to avoid hampering ongoing post-rescue operations.
