Probe ordered into dog death in Bagerhat crocodile attack

DHAKA, April 11, 2026 (BSS) - State Minister for Fisheries and Livestock Sultan Salauddin Tuku has directed authorities to conduct a proper investigation and bring those responsible to justice over the tragic death of a dog in a crocodile attack at a pond adjacent to the shrine of Hazrat Khan Jahan Ali (RA) in Bagerhat.

Expressing deep shock over the incident, the state minister said the event had deeply saddened him both as a representative of the ministry and as a human being. He noted that Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is committed to building the country as a safe habitat for both people and all animals.

Issuing instructions to the concerned administration, Tuku said the incident must be thoroughly investigated and the guilty persons must be brought under legal action. He also stressed that all necessary measures should be taken to prevent the recurrence of such incidents in the future.

Following the state minister's directive, the Bagerhat district administration has formed an investigation committee and taken swift action.

Bagerhat Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Atiya Khatun has been made the head of the probe body. Other members of the committee include Assistant Commissioner (Land) M Sharif Khan, Upazila Livestock Officer Dr Palash Kumar Das, and Officer-in-Charge of Bagerhat Sadar Police Station Md Mahamud-Ul-Hasan.
