Veteran journalist ASM Habibullah passes away

MYMENSINGH, April 11, 2026 (BSS)- Veteran journalist and former Chief News Editor of Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS) ASM Habibullah died of old-age complications at his residence here today.

He was 91. 

“ASM Habibullah breathed his last today morning at his residence in the Sankipara of Mymensingh city,” family sources said.

He had been suffering from old age complications for long. 

ASM Habibullah was a well-known and respected figure in the field of country's journalism. He was also associated with the international media outlet Voice of America.

He served as the general secretary of the National Press Club. 

Throughout his long career, Habibullah earned special honour and reputation among journalist community for his dedication, courage, and professionalism. 

His demise has created an irreparable void in the country's media landscape.

Habibullah left behind a host of relatives, colleagues, and well-wishers to mourn his death.

National Press Club President Hasan Hafiz and General Secretary Ayub Bhuiyan have expressed profound shock at the death of eminent journalist Habibullah. 

They also prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed sympathy to the bereaved family.

In a condolence message, Managing Director and Chief Editor of BSS Kamal Uddin Sabuj has termed Habibullah as one of the pioneer of parliament reporting, expressing deep shock at his death.

 He recalled his dedication and contribution to development of the national news agency and journalism profession in the country as well. 
 
President and General Secretary of BSS Journalists Welfare Association Anup Khastagir and Manikul Azad also expressed deep shock and sorrow at the death of ASM Habibullah, founder president of the association.

Mymensingh Press Club General Secretary Md. Abdul Qayyum has expressed deep shock at the death of the veteran journalist who also served as the general secretary of the Mymensingh Press Club.
