DHAKA, April 30, 2026 (BSS) – A court here today convicted five people and sentenced them to death in a case filed over the killing of autorickshaw driver Mukul Hossain in Keraniganj in 2020.

The death-row convicts are Md Sohel, Md Shahin Hawlader, Md Sumon, Md Kabir and Md Ferdaus.

Judge ABM Ashfaq-Ul -Haque pronounced the verdict in the presence of Shahin and Ferdaus and sent them to jail with conviction warrants. The court also issued arrest warrants against the three other convicts, who are currently absconding.

The court, however, acquitted five others as the charges brought against them could not be proven.

According to the case statement, Mukul, 35, earned his livelihood by driving an autorickshaw in the Keraniganj Model Police Station area. On June 27, 2020, he left home with his vehicle but did not return. His throat-slit body was later recovered from the Konakhali Turag Bari area under South Keraniganj.

Investigators later found that the convicts had hired Mukul’s autorickshaw as passengers and subsequently killed him to snatch the vehicle.
