Ctg mayor emphasizes promoting Buddha’s teachings

CHATTOGRAM, May 01, 2026 (BSS) -  Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) Mayor Dr. Shahadat Hossain emphasized the enduring relevance of Gautam Buddha's teachings of non-violence, friendship, and humanity in promoting world peace.

He said in the current global scenario marked by war, conflict, and violence, Buddha's message of peace holds significant importance.
 
Mayor Hossain made the remark during a peace procession and discussion meeting organized in Chattogram today marking Buddha Purnima.

A colorful peace procession was organized from DC Hill square in the city with the theme 'We want peace, not war, world peace and harmony for humanity'. 

Following the procession, a discussion meeting took place at the Buddhist temple premises at Nandankanan.

During the meeting, Mayor Dr. Shahadat Hossain emphasized the importance of peace over war, stating that it should not be just a formality. He stressed the need to establish tolerance, harmony, and mutual respect in both individual and social life to create a humane society.

Mayor Hossain also highlighted Bangladesh's tradition of communal harmony, where people of all religions coexist peacefully. He called for collective efforts to uphold this tradition and work towards maintaining peace and harmony in society.
 
Riton Kumar Barua chaired the program organized by the Bangladesh Buddhist Association.

Rotarian Amaresh Barua, Engineer Asim Barua, Rubel Barua Hridoy, Suman Barua Bappi, Buddhist religious leaders, and representatives from various socio-cultural organizations attended the program.

The event was filled with joy as devout Buddhist followers of all ages joined the peace procession. Special prayers were conducted, focusing on world peace, harmony, and human welfare.
