DHAKA, May 1, 2026 (BSS) - Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ) Secretary General Kader Gani Chowdhury today said modern civilization has been built on the foundation of labor and workers.

He said workers have made the greatest contribution to the advancement of civilization, but they still do not receive proper dignity for their labor.

He made the remarks at a discussion organized by the Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists and the Dhaka Union of Journalists on the occasion of May Day, held at the Tofazzal Hossain Manik Mia Hall of the National Press Club in Dhaka.

Kader Gani Chowdhury said workers' lives remain marked by neglect. He also said that journalists in Bangladesh, as working professionals, are among the most deprived groups.

He noted that most media houses do not pay journalists according to the wage board, despite making claims in advertisements that they will follow wage board guidelines. He urged the union to become more active in addressing such irregularities and holding media owners accountable.

The discussion was chaired by BFUJ President Obaidur Rahman Shahin and conducted by Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ) General Secretary Khurshid Alam.

DUJ President Shahidul Islam, AKM Mohsin, Khairul Bashar, Erfanul Haque Nahid, Abu Bakar, Babul Talukdar, Shahjan Saju, Rafiq Muhammad, Modabbir Hossain, Didarul Alam Didar, Shahnaz Poly, Khandaker Alamgir, M. Mosharraf Hossain, Talukdar Rumi, Abdullah Majumdar, Nizam Uddin Dervesh and Raju Ahmed, among others, participated in the discussion.
