
DHAKA, May 21, 2026 (BSS) - The closing and prize-giving ceremony of the "Bangladesh Army Firing Competition-2026" was held at Cumilla Cantonment today.
Chief of Army Staff Waker-Uz-Zaman attended the ceremony as the chief guest and distributed prizes among the winners, said an Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) Directorate release this noon.
In his remarks, the army chief said firing proficiency is essential for achieving professional excellence in military service and remains an integral part of the basic training of army personnel.
He added that such annual competitions play an important role in enhancing the skills and professional standards of army members.
In the competition, the 17 Infantry Division emerged as champions, while the Para Commando Brigade finished as runners-up, the ISPR said.
Soldier Pial Mondol of the 17 Infantry Division was adjudged the best firer. Soldier Tanvir Hossain of the 10 Infantry Division secured second position, while Soldier Joba Akter of the 24 Infantry Division was named best female firer.
A total of 17 teams took part in the competition, including all formations of the Bangladesh Army, logistics areas, five independent brigades and the Para Commando Brigade.
The event was conducted under the overall supervision of the Headquarters of the 33 Infantry Division since May 16.
Senior military officials, including the Master General of the Ordnance, Commandant of Bangladesh Ordnance Factory, General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 33 Infantry Division and Cumilla Area Commander, GOC of the 17 Infantry Division and Sylhet Area Commander, along with senior officers from Army Headquarters and various formations, were present.
