
DHAKA, May 21, 2026 (BSS) - State Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Shaikh Faridul Islam today emphasized the coordination between government and private sectors to successfully implement the programme of planting 25 crore trees over the next five years.
“Merely planting trees is not enough; ensuring their proper care and nurturing must be guaranteed,” he said.
The state minister came up with the remarks as the chief guest while addressing a views-exchange meeting with the representatives of various Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) held at the conference room of the Forest Department in the capital.
The National Cell on ‘25 crore tree plantation programme in 5 years’ organized the event.
Speaking as the special guest, Prime Minister’s Special Assistant (Environment, Forest and Climate Change) Dr. Md. Saimum Parvez said that the collective participation of public-private institutions, development partners, and the general public is required to plant 25 crore trees over the next five years in accordance with the election pledge.
During the meeting, representatives of different NGOs highlighted the progress of their tree plantation activities and future plans, and put forward various recommendations to strengthen the coordinated tree plantation campaign across the country.
Chief Conservator of Forests M Amir Hossain Chowdhury, Technical Expert Jamail Bashir JB, officials of the Forest Department, and representatives of various non-governmental organizations were present, among others.
