DHAKA, June 23, 2026 (BSS) - Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) has expressed strong anger, deep concern and protest over the attack and humiliation of several journalists by the leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami in the capital's Dhanmondi area while they (Journalists) were performing their professional duties.

A press release signed by JCD President Rakibul Islam Rakib and General Secretary Nasir Uddin said that muzzling the media and attacking journalists is contrary to a free, democratic and civilized society.

The attacked journalists include Mahfuzur Rahman Shishir, a multimedia reporter for Dainik Shokaler Khobor; Rabbi Siddiqui, a senior reporter for Jamuna Television; Abdur Rahman Ishan, a journalist for Kalbela; and several other media workers, read the press release.

The release further said this incident proves that they cannot tolerate dissenting opinions and want to push the country toward an extremist, intolerant, and fascist framework.

The Chhatra Dal leaders demanded that the Jamaat leaders and activists involved in this terrorist attack on media workers be identified immediately and brought under exemplary punishment.

At the same time, they wished for the speedy recovery of all injured journalists, called for ensuring their proper medical treatment, and urged all concerned to remain vigilant regarding the professional safety of journalists.
