
DHAKA, July 20,2026 (BSS) - Mohammad Shahed, also known as Shahed Karim, the former chairman of Regent Hospital who was jailed over COVID-19 test certificate fraud, has been arrested again by police in Dhaka.
Police said he was detained around 1:25 pm today from the ECB Chattar area in the capital on an outstanding arrest warrant in a case filed with Pallabi Police Station, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Pallabi Police Station Hasan Basir told BSS.
He was arrested afresh in a warrant against a case filed under Ortho Rin Adalat Ain 2003, the OC said.
Shahed was previously accused in 35 cases, including fraud, money laundering, and acquiring wealth beyond known sources of income.
Shahed was released from prison on September 4, 2024, after securing bail in all cases.
He rose to notoriety in 2020 after authorities found Regent Hospital had issued fake COVID-19 test certificates. Investigators alleged he embezzled more than Tk 110 million through various fraud schemes, including over Tk 31 million from fake coronavirus test reports.
