CUMILLA, May 16, 2026 (BSS)-A giant camel named ‘Sultan’ has emerged as a unique attraction at the cattle market here ahead of the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha.
The camel has been brought to an agro farm at Laxminagar area of Sadar Dakshin upazila where visitors of all ages are flocking daily to catch a glimpse of the rare animal.
According to the farm authorities, the camel was brought from India’s Rajasthan province about two months ago. Locals say the unusual addition has created a widespread curiosity in the area, adding a new dimension to the traditional cattle market usually dominated by cows and goats.
Visitors from distant areas are reportedly gathering at the farm every day to see ‘Sultan’. Children and teenagers, in particular, are showing keen interest in the camel, with many busy taking photos and videos.
Caretakers of the animal said that camel farming is comparatively easy. In terms of feeding habits and care, they noted, camels are quite similar to local cattle. They also believe that camel rearing has potential in Bangladesh in the future due to the animal’s relatively low susceptibility to diseases.
Farm owner and businessman Jewel Ahmed said, “We brought the camel to introduce something different to the cattle market. Seeing the public interest and response has encouraged us. There is also potential for expanding commercial camel farming in the country in the future.”
Local residents said such a distinctive attraction had rarely been seen before at Cumilla’s cattle markets, making “Sultan” a major topic of discussion across the area.
The agro farm at Laxminagar of Sadar Dakshin upazila is now drawing widespread attention in this year’s sacrificial animal market with the presence of the unusual camel “Sultan.”
