
CHATTOGRAM, May 26, 2025 (BSS)- Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) and District Police have taken step to enforce a strict and coordinated security measures to maintain law and order across the city and district during the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha.
As many residents leave the city for their villages during the Eid holidays, the risk of theft and burglary in vacant homes increases significantly. To address this risk, police patrolling and surveillance have been scaled up substantially in residential areas, key thoroughfares, cattle markets, shopping malls, and major public places.
According to CMP sources, temporary check posts have already been set up at various city entry points and strategic locations ahead of the festival.
Apart from routine searches plainclothes detective surveillance has been reinforced to deter criminal activity, while motorcycle and patrol teams have increased special night patrol in residential areas.
Law enforcement agencies urged the public to immediately contact the national emergency service at 999 or their nearest police station to report any suspicious individuals or activities.
Senior CMP officials said security measures also beefed up in sacrificial animal markets. Special police teams are working round the clock to detect counterfeit currency and deter pick-pocketing and organized criminal gangs. Furthermore, authorities have advised buyers and traders to exercise extreme caution during large cash transactions, offering direct police escorts for transporting money from banks if needed.
CMP Commissioner Hasan Md. Shawkat Ali said authorities are on highest alert to protect city residents ahead of Eid-ul-Azha. He sought cooperation of citizens urging everyone to remain vigilant and responsible in maintaining law and order.
Meanwhile, the District Police have intensified patrols across key markets, cattle bazaars, and rural areas in various upazilas. Beat policing has been activated to secure homes left vacant during the holidays, with local public representatives and community policing members instructed to remain on high alert.
Chattogram District Police Superintendent Masud Alam said, they are actively working to prevent highway traffic congestion and accidents. He added that the district police have taken all necessary measures to protect both homebound commuters and rural communities with the public's cooperation.
