Kings return to winning streak with emphatic victory

DHAKA, Jan 3, 2025 (BSS)-Holders Bashundhara Kings returned to  winning streak in the Bashundhara Group Bangladesh Premier League football thrashing ten men Bangladesh Police Football Club by 5–0 goals held at Rafiq Uddin Bhuiyan Stadium in Mymensingh on Friday.

In the day’s match, Brazilian midfielder Fernandes scored a brace while midfielder Mojibur Rahman Jony, forward Rakib Hossain and Brazilian midfielder Miguel Figueira supported him with a lone goal each for Kings who led the first half by 3-0 goals.

Jonathan Fernandes put Kings ahead early in the 10th minute while Jony doubled the lead scoring the second goal for the winning side in the 12nd minute of the match.

Fernandes further widened the margin scoring his second and third goal for Kings in the 38th minute while after the breather Rakib made the score line 4-0 in the 50th minute.
   
After the resumption, Miguel Figueira sealed the victory scoring the fifth goal for Kings in the 90+5th minute of the match. 

Bangladesh Police were reduced to ten men by the referee as their Paraguayan defender Alexander Moreno was shown direct red card for his unsporting behavior in the match. 

With the day’s win, Bashundhara Kings improved their position with ten points from six matches while Bangladesh Police Football Club remained at their previous credit of six points also playing six matches.  

The defending champions Kings will play their next match against Fakirerpool Young Men’s Club on January 10 while Bangladesh Police Football Club will take on Fortis Football Club on January 11. 

Bashundhara Kings earlier thrashed Chittagong Abahani Limited by 7-0 goals in their league opening match but they lost to Mohammedan Sporting Club by 1-0 goal in their second match.

The league champions however bounced back to register a 4-1 victory over Rahmatganj Muslim and Friends Society in their third match of the league, lost to a 1-0 goal defeat to Abahani Limited Dhaka and played out to a 1-1 goal draw  with  Brothers Union Club.

Bangladesh Police Football Club earlier suffered 2-1 defeat to Brothers Union Club in their league opening match, beating Fakirerpool by 4-1 goals, blanked Dhaka Wanderers by 4-0 goals, went down 1-3 goal defeat to Mohammedan and suffered 2-0 defeat to Abahani Limited.    

In the remaining sixth round matches tomorrow (Saturday), table topper Mohammedan face Chittagong Abahani Limited at Rafiq Uddin Bhuiyan Stadium in Mymensingh and Rahmatganj Muslim and Friends Society take on Dhaka Wanderers Club at Birshreshtha Flight Lieutenant Matiur Rahman Stadium in Munshiganj.

Both the matches kick off at 2.45 pm.
