PARIS, Feb 26, 2025 (BSS/AFP) - France beat Iceland to remain unbeaten and Germany swept aside Austria in the Women's Nations League on Tuesday.

France, beaten finalists in last year's inaugural competition, made it two out of two after last week's opening win over Norway with a 3-2 defeat of Iceland.

Kadidiatou Diani struck first for the French, with Marie-Antoinette Katoto and Sandy Baltimore joining the Lyon player on the scoresheet in Le Mans.

Iceland's goals came from two set pieces, the first a freekick from Karolina Vilhjalmsdottir, the second Ingibjorg Sigurdardottir's corner.

This win kept the French at the top of their group.

For Eugenie Le Sommer, it was a night to remember as she came off the bench in the second half to earn a record 199th cap for Les Bleues.

Germany, held 2-2 by the Netherlands last week, got off the mark at the second attempt with a 4-1 defeat of Austria to go top of their group on goal difference from the Dutch.

Elsewhere Denmark beat Italy 3-1, the Republic of Ireland suffered a 4-0 rout by Slovenia, the Dutch defeated Scotland 2-1 and Wales and Sweden drew 1-1.

On Wednesday defending titleholders and 2023 World Cup winners Spain are at Wembley to face European champions England.
