DHAKA, May 18, 2025 (BSS) - Najmul Hossain Shanto entered the record books during Bangladesh's first T20 International against the United Arab Emirates (UAE), despite not being part of the team's playing XI.

He achieved the feat as a substitute fielder by taking three catches, which played a crucial role in Bangladesh's 27-run victory.

Taking three catches as a substitute fielder in a T20 International is a world record, and Shanto became the fifth player to achieve this milestone.

Four other cricketers-India's Dhruv Jurel, New Zealand's Daryl Mitchell, Argentina's Manuel Iturbe, and Scotland's Michael Leask-had previously done it while coming on as substitutes.

Shanto was Bangladesh's previous captain in this format before the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) appointed Liton Das as the permanent skipper in his place. However, Shanto still leads the national side in Test and ODI formats.

Bangladesh posted a hefty 191 for 7, thanks to a record-breaking century by Parvez Hossain Emon, who smashed a 54-ball 100 to become the second Bangladeshi to score a century in this format after Tamim Iqbal.

In reply, UAE were bowled out for 164.
