Brothers register big win in BPL

DHAKA, May 20, 2025 (BSS)- Gambian midfielder Zakaria Darboe and his compatriot Assan Njie scored a brace each as Brothers Union Club moved to fourth position in the Bashundhara Group Bangladesh Premier League football defeating Dhaka Wanderers club by 5-0 goals held at Birshreshtha Flight Matiur Rahman Stadium in Munshiganj today (Tuesday).

Apart from Zakaria and forward Assan Njie’s two goals in the match, Nigerian forward Mfon Sunday Udoh supported them with a lone goal for Brothers who led the first half by 3-0 goals.

From the very outset, Brothers Union looked sharp, hungry and in complete control, dominating possession and dictating the tempo. The early breakthrough came in the 8th minute for Brothers scored by Assan.

Zakaria scored the second goal in the 36th minute and  the third goal came for Brothers eight minutes later and it was again Zakaria.

After the breather, Diarra further widened the margin scoring the fourth goal for Brothers in the 75th minute while Assan sealed the victory scoring his second and fifth goal for Brothers in the 90th minute of the match.

With the day’s win, the all orange Gopibagh brigade Brothers Union Club improved their tally with 26 points from 16 matches while Dhaka Wanderers Club remained with their previous collection of 10 points playing the same number of matches.

Meanwhile, Fortis Football Club will play against Bangladesh Police Football Club at Bashundhara Kings arena practice ground while Abahani Limited, Dhaka face Chittagong Abahani Limited at Shaheed Dhirendranath Datta Stadium in Cumilla tomorrow (Wednesday).
