STUTTGART, Germany, Sept 20, 2025 (BSS/AFP) - Ermedin Demirovic scored a goal and set up another as Stuttgart rebounded from a poor start to the season to beat St Pauli 2-0 at home on Friday.

Left to carry the offensive burden after Nick Woltemade's big-money move to Newcastle and Deniz Undav's knee injury, Demirovic was named captain for the first time on Friday.

Germany midfielder Angelo Stiller missed a penalty midway through the opening stanza but Demirovic put Stuttgart in front just before half-time, knocking a finish high into the net.

Just after the break, Demirovic created a goal for Bilal El Khannouss. The Hamburg-born Bosnia striker also had two more goals ruled out for offside, one in each half.

The win puts Stuttgart, last season's German Cup winners, back on track after claiming just three points from their opening three fixtures.

On Saturday, league leaders Bayern Munich play at Hoffenheim.
