DHAKA, Sept 20, 2025 (BSS)—Bangladesh captain Liton Das won the toss and sent Sri Lanka into bat first in their Asia Cup Super Fours opening game at Dubai International Cricket Stadium today.
Bangladesh came into the Super Fours as Group runners-up, only losing to Sri Lanka. The match is therefore a kind of revenge for them apart from keeping their nose ahead for the final race.
Mahedi Hasan and Shoriful Islam are back to Bangladesh playing squad for two changes from the previous game against Afghanistan, which they won by eight runs.
Nurul Hasan Sohan and Rishad Hossain were left out to accommodate the duo.
Liton Das believes the toss victory will give them an edge over Sri Lanka.
“When I saw the first leg, the second team won,” Liton said after the toss “I am also confused about the wicket, so want to bowl. We are very excited. All the members are doing a great job,” he added.
Sri Lanka will play this match less than 48 hours after their six-wicket victory in the last match against Afghanistan.
They remained unchanged from the previous squad.
“I would have done the same thing (bowl first),” Sri Lanka captain Charith Asalnaka said, underlining the importance of toss victory. “The pitch is on the dry side, doesn't matter. It is a used pitch, so doesn't matter that we are batting first,” he added.
