DHAKA, Dec 4, 2025 (BSS) - The Bangladesh Under-17 team tasted a nine-wicket defeat to Sri Lanka youngsters in the first three-day match at Bashundhara Sports Complex today.
The victory helped Sri Lanka draw the two-match three-day series after losing the first game by 27 runs.
The defeat was on the cards when Bangladesh were bowled out for 122 in the first innings after opting to bat first.
Sri Lanka replied with 335-7 declared, thanks to captain and opener Rehan Peiris’s monumental 182. The total gave them a 213-run lead and a firm control on the match.
Bangladesh needed to do something big to avoid a defeat. But they paid the price of a top order collapse.
However, Bangladesh resumed the Day 3, the final day of the game with 107-6 but fought admirably to avoid an innings defeat at least, courtesy of Sourav Karmakar and Junayed Hossain.
Sourav made 123 and Junayed scored 78 as the duo shared 195 runs for the seventh wicket, raising a prospect of eking out a draw.
But the departure of the duo in the space of eight runs saw Bangladesh bowled out for 278, setting Sri Lanka a 66-run for a victory.
Sri Lanka reached 68-1 in 10.2 overs for a victory in the match with captin Rehan Peiris making 22 not out.
