Int'l Masters Chess begins

DHAKA, Dec 15, 2025 (BSS)- The MTB International Masters Chess tournament 
began at the Multipurpose Hall of Independent University, Bangladesh in the 
capital today (Monday).

The tournament is being held under the patronage of Mutual Trust Bank PLC and 
organised by the Independent University, Bangladesh with the cooperation of 
the Bangladesh Chess Federation.

On the opening day, FIDE Master (FM) Saklain Mostafa Sajid defeated Candidate 
Master Silwal Purushottam of Nepal. Playing with the black pieces, FM Saklain 
Mostafa Sajid adopted the Sicilian Defence against CM Silwal Purushottam and 
won after 67 move.

International Master (IM) Manon Reja Neer split point with Arpan Das (Junior) 
of India. Playing with the white pieces, IM Manon Reja Neer faced Arpan Das's 
Caro-Kann Defence and agreed to a draw after 18 moves.

IM Abu Sufian Shakil also split point with another IM Md. Minhaj Uddin.

India's Bivor Adak defeated FM Khandakar Aminul Islam. Playing with the black 
pieces, Bivor Adak overcame FM Khandakar Aminul Islam's English Opening to 
secure victory in 34 moves.

Amit Bikram Roy lost to FM Gurpreet Pal Singh of India. Playing with the 
black pieces, FM Gurpreet Pal Singh employed the Slav Defense against Amit 
Bikram Roy and won after 47 moves.

The second round begins at the same venue from 2pm with IM Abu Sufian Shakil 
meets Bivor Adak, Arpan Das (Junior) takes on FM Khandakar Aminul Islam, FM 
Sakline Mostafa Sajid faces IM Manon Reja Neer, FM Gurpreet Pal Singh play 
against Candidate Master Silwal Purushottam and IM Md. Minhaz Uddin meets 
Amit Bikram Roy.
