Bangladesh earn emphatic win over Sri Lanka

DHAKA, Jan 20, 2026 (BSS)-The Bangladesh men's team, came from behind, 
registered an emphatic 5-1 goals win over Sri Lanka in the SAFF Futsal 
Championship 2026 held at the Nonthaburi Stadium in Nonthaburi, Thailand 
today (Tuesday).

In the day's match, Rahbar Wahed Khan scored a brace in the 4th and 18th 
minute while he was well supported by Moin Ahmed, Tajware Bin Kashem and Abir 
Hossain who scored a lone goal each for Bangladesh in the 22nd, 34th and 38th 
minutes respectively.

Mohamed Aman Mohamed Faizer netted a lone goal for Sri Lanka in the 5th 
minute of the match.  

With this win, Bangladesh moved up second position in the point table with 
seven points from four matches Sri Lanka, who stand at sixth position, 
remained with their previous collection of one point playing the same number 
of matches.

Earlier, Bangladesh team played to a fighting 4-4 goals draw with India in 
their tournament opening match, suffered 6-1 goal defeat to Maldives in their 
second match.

However Bangladesh fought back to registered a 4-1 victory over Nepal in 
their third match.

Sri Lanka earlier played out to a 3-3 with Bhutan in their opening match but 
they lost to Nepal 2-1 and Pakistan 5-2 in their second and third matches 
respectively. 

After Sri Lanka, Bangladesh will play their remaining matches against 
Pakistan (January 22) and Nepal (January 24) at the same venue.

The table toppers at the end of all seven rounds of matches will be crowned 
the first-ever SAFF Men's Futsal champions.
