Sakline secures silver

DHAKA, May 19, 2026 (BSS) - Bangladesh’s FIDE Master Sakline Mostafa Sajid won the silver medal in the Junior (Under-20) category of the Rapid Chess event of Commonwealth Chess Championship held in Kalutara, Sri Lanka.

FM Sakline scored 5.5 points from seven games to finish second and secure the silver medal.

The first four rounds of the rapid event were played on (Monday last morning, while the remaining three rounds took place on today (Tuesday) morning.

After the second round of the Standard Chess event, FM Sakline Mostafa Sajid had two points from two games. Khondakar Aminul Islam collected 1.5 points, while Women Candidate Master Waliah Ahmed and Rayan Rashid Mugdho earned one point each.

On Monday’s second-round games, FM Sakline Mostafa Sajid defeated Women Candidate Master Chua Jia Tien of Malaysia. FM Khondakar Aminul Islam split points with Rajendra Karthikeyan of Malaysia. Walijah Ahmed lost to Indian Grandmaster M. R. Venkatesh while Rayan Rashid Mugdho gave a walkover due to illness.

In the youth categories, Jannatul Preety scored 1.5 points from two games in the Girls’ Under-16 category. Zayan Khan earned one point in the Under-18 category, while Shayan Meerab Hasan scored 0.5 point in the same age of U-16 group.
