IM Fahad emerges as unbeaten champion

DHAKA, June 19, 2026 (BSS)- International Master Mohammad Fahad Rahman of Bangladesh Ansar emerged as undefeated champion of the 3rd Mian Sultan Khan Chess Tournament held on Thursday last organized by Pakistan High Commission in Gulshan in the capital.

IM Fahad secured the title with an impressive score of 7.5 points from eight games.

Three players from the Bangladesh Navy scored seven points each. Based on tie-breaks, International Master Minhaz Uddin finished as runner-up, FIDE Master Sharif Hossain secured third place, and International Master Manon Reja Neer finished fourth position in the day-long meet.

Earlier, Syed Shujauddin Ahmed, president of the Bangladesh Chess Federation, formally inaugurated the rapid system chess tournament.

The opening ceremony was also attended by Imran Haider, High Commissioner of Pakistan to Bangladesh.

Mahdi Amin, Adviser to the Prime Minister, attended as the chief guest in the closing ceremony and distributed prizes among the winners’.

International Woman Master Rani Hamid also present in the ceremony.

A total of 156 players participated in the event. Champion IM Mohammad Fahad Rahman received a cash prize of Taka 25,000 along with a trophy while runner-up IM Minhaz Uddin earned Taka 20,000 and a trophy. Third-place finisher  FM Sharif Hossain received Taka 15,000, and fourth-placed IM Monon Reja Neer  got Taka 10,000 prize money.
