DHAKA, May 21, 2025 (BSS) – The government is moving to finalize a coordinated and efficient ground handling mechanism for the much-anticipated Third Terminal of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) as top advisers and key aviation stakeholders met here today to align strategies.

The high-level stakeholder meeting, held at the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism, focused on streamlining passenger and cargo ground handling operations at the upcoming terminal, which is expected to transform the country’s aviation landscape.

Civil Aviation and Tourism Adviser Sheikh Bashir Uddin, Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Adviser Muhammad Fouzul Kabir Khan and Foreign Affairs Adviser Md Touhid Hossain attended the meeting and engaged with stakeholders from government agencies and the aviation industry.

“We must treat the Third Terminal as a strategic state asset. Its success depends on inclusive and committed participation from all involved,” said Bashir, emphasizing the government's determination to make the terminal operationally and financially viable.

Echoing similar views, Adviser Khan said, “Stakeholders may have differing perspectives, but we must prioritize national interests to ensure the aviation sector becomes a sustainable and profitable industry”. 

Chief Adviser’s Special Envoy for International Affairs Lutfe Siddiqi joined the meeting virtually and also stressed the importance of coordinated execution.

Civil Aviation and Tourism secretary Nasreen Jahan, Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) Chairman Air Vice Marshal Md Monjur Kabir Bhuiyan and  Biman Bangladesh Airlines Managing Director and CEO Dr Md Shafiqul Rahman also present at the meeting.

Officials from CAAB, Biman, and the Civil Aviation Ministry shared operational updates and exchanged views on logistical preparedness, infrastructure capacity, and policy frameworks ahead of the terminal’s full commissioning.

Currently Biman Bangladesh agency has the sole responsibility for providing both passengers and cargo ground handling services to all airlines.
