Bangladesh, Maldives reaffirm commitment to deepen bilateral relations

DHAKA, Nov 10, 2025 (BSS) – Bangladesh and the Maldives have expressed confidence that continued collaboration will further strengthen bilateral relations and yield meaningful benefits for both the nations, reflecting the long-standing friendship and mutual respect that define their partnership.

The reaffirmation came when Bangladesh High Commissioner to the Maldives Dr. Md. Nazmul Islam paid a courtesy call on Dr. Mohamed Waheed Hassan, the fifth President of the Republic of Maldives and Special Envoy of the Maldivian President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu today in Male, according to a message received here. 

During the discussion, the two dignitaries exchanged views on a wide range of issues of mutual interest, including education, culture, and people-to-people connectivity. 

Both sides acknowledged the importance of strengthening cooperation in these areas to enhance mutual understanding and foster inclusive growth.

Dr. Mohamed Waheed Hassan praised Bangladesh’s progress in education and socio-economic development and lauded the contributions of the Bangladeshi expatriate community to the Maldivian economy.

Expressing particular interest in cultural collaboration, Dr. Waheed emphasised expanding partnerships through music, dance, and the arts to promote greater cultural exchange between the peoples of the two countries.

High Commissioner Dr Islam highlighted Bangladesh’s remarkable achievements in economic growth, education, and human resource development. 

He underscored opportunities for cooperation in higher education, including medical internships, engineering programmes, and scholarship initiatives for Maldivian students at Bangladeshi universities.
