THAKURGAON, Nov 10, 2025 (BSS) - BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today said those who fear losing in the upcoming election are the ones plotting to delay it.
“We don’t understand things like referendums, or PR — nor do the people. What the people understand is elections. This election is extremely important for our country,” he said while addressing a views-exchange meeting at the Ruhia High School ground here.
Fakhrul added: “For the past sixteen years, the nation has not had a real election, nor a parliament elected by the people. Through this election, we can bring stability back to the country.”
The BNP secretary general said the people of Ruhia have always supported the “Sheaf of Paddy” (BNP’s election symbol).
Therefore, if the BNP forms the next government, it will take steps for the overall development in Ruhia, including the improvement of roads and infrastructures.
Describing this election as possibly the last election of his life, Mirza Fakhrul urged the people to vote for the sheaf of paddy.
“The people are the true owners of this country. That’s why the BNP has always fought to uphold people’s rights and democracy — and will continue that struggle in the future,” he said.
He added that the only way to overcome the current national crisis is through a free and fair election. To restore the people’s right to vote, everyone must unite and vote for the “Sheaf of Paddy”, he said.
He also mentioned that the BNP has proposed to the interim government a Tk 350 crore “Integrated Development Project” for the neglected and backward Rangpur region, under which road and infrastructure development work from Thakurgaon to Panchagarh has already begun.
If the BNP forms the next government, this development work will be further expanded, he assured.
Ruhia Thana BNP President Abdul Jabbar chaired the meeting, which was attended by District BNP President Mirza Faisal Amin, General Secretary Poigam Ali and Sadar Upazila President Abdul Hamid, among others.
