Committee recommends closure of 4 ports

DHAKA, March 2, 2025 (BSS) - A committee of the Ministry of Shipping has recommended the complete closure of three non-profitable and inactive ports and the closure of operational activities of another one port under the Bangladesh Land Ports Authority.

The committee recommended completely closing the Chilahati Land Port in Nilphamari's Domar upazila, Daulatganj Land Port of Chuadanga and Tegamukh Land Port of Rangamati hill district.

They recommended closing operational activities of Balla Land Port of Habiganj. 

The scrutiny committee formed by the ministry has made this recommendation regarding the eight inactive and non-profitable land ports of Bangladesh Land Port Authority, said a press release today.

Earlier, a six-member committee comprising representatives from Ministry of Shipping, Finance Division, Road, Transport and Highways Division, National Board of Revenue (NBR) and Bangladesh Land Port Authority was formed to scrutinize the eight non-profitable and inactive ports under the Bangladesh Land Ports Authority. 

The committee inspected the eight ports and submitted a report before Brigadier General (Retd) Dr M Sakhawat Hossain, adviser to the Ministry of Shipping and the Ministry of Labour and Employment.
