Price fall in large-cap drives stocks down

DHAKA, Mar 4, 2025 (BSS) - Country's both the bourses, Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) - today plunged due to mainly price fall in large-cap securities.

DSEX, the broad index of the DSE, lost 26.6 points or 0.5% to settle at 5,194 points, as against 5,221 points in the previous trading session.

The indices observed a downtrend throughout the session as sellers dominated the market, causing the majority of scrips to slide into red territory for consecutive sessions.

Meanwhile, market turnover also fell by 11.3% to Taka 3.4 billion as against Taka 3.8 billion in the previous session.

On the sectoral front, Pharma (16.8%) issues exerted the highest turnover, followed by Textile (16.5%) and Bank (11.9%) sectors. Sectors mostly displayed dismal returns, out of which Paper (-2.3%), Tannery (-2.0%) and Textile (-1.7%) exerted the most corrections, while Ceramic (0.8%) and Miscellaneous (0.1%) exhibited marginal gains on the bourse today.

Out of the 397 issues traded, 64 advanced, 265 declined and 68 remained unchanged.

The port city bourse, CSE, also witnessed a negative session today. The Selective Categories' Index (CSCX) and All Share Price Index (CASPI) declined by 51.3 points and 82.8 points, respectively.
