Govt to procure 2 cargos LNG, 30,000 MTs fertilizer

DHAKA, March 5, 2025 (BSS) – The government today 
approved separate proposals for procuring some 2 cargos 
of LNG, 30,000 metric tons of bagged granular urea 
fertilizer and 10,000 metric tons of lentil to meet the 
growing demand of the country.

The approvals came from the 10th meeting of the Advisers 
Council Committee meeting on Government Purchase in this 
year held today at the Cabinet Division Conference Room 
at Bangladesh Secretariat today with Finance Adviser Dr 
Salehuddin Ahmed in the chair.

Briefing reporters after the meeting, the Finance 
Adviser said that the main purpose for holding the 
economic affairs and purchase committee meetings are to 
ensure procurement of the much needed items alongside 
other necessary items.

“Side by side, we also thrive for ensuring procurement 
of cost-efficient items,” he added.
The Adviser said they have cleared proposals for 
procuring lentil and two cargos of LNG for ensuring 
energy security.

Following two separate proposals from the Energy and 
Mineral Resources Division, Petrobangla would procure 
one cargo LNG from the spot market under the DPM method 
from M/S Total Energies Gas and Power Limited, 
Switzerland with around Taka 754.42 crore where per 
MMBtu LNG would cost $15.73.

In another proposal, the Petrobangla would procure one 
cargo LNG from the spot market through following 
international quotation from M/S Gunvor Singapore Pte 
Ltd, Singapore with around Taka 741.95 crore with per 
MMBtu LNG costing $15.47.

In response to another proposal from the Ministry of 
Industries, the Bangladesh Chemical Industries 
Corporation (BCIC) would procure 30,000 metric tons of 
bagged granular urea fertilizer from KAFCO, Bangladesh 
under the 14th lot for the current fiscal year (FY25) 
with around Taka 154.68 crore where per ton fertilizer 
would cost $422.62.

Following a proposal from the Ministry of Commerce, the 
state-run Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) would 
procure 10,000 metric tons of lentil under local Open 
Tender Method (OTM) from Sheikh Agro Food Industries, 
Dhaka with around Taka 95.40 crore with per kg lentil 
costing Taka 95.40.

The day’s meeting approved another proposal from the 
Local Government Division under which the Component-1 of 
the Procurement of Saidabad Water Treatment Plant 
(Phase-III) Project has been awarded to CMEC-YREC-SMEDI 
JV with around Taka 5,964.10 crore.

Besides, the purchase committee meeting approved another 
proposal from the Disaster Management and Relief 
Division under which the WFP has been awarded the 
Community Workfare and Services Support, Non Consulting 
Service-1 under the “ISO Component-6: Building Community 
Resilience and Self Reliance (BCRSR)” project with 
around Taka 488 crore.

Advisers concerned attended the meeting while 
secretaries concerned were present.
