CHATTOGRAM, Aug 26, 2025 (BSS)- Chattogram Port Authority (CPA) has temporarily suspended the four-fold store rent on imported FCL (Full Container Load) containers for one month to alleviate container congestion at the port yard.

The decision was communicated through a notification signed by Enamul Karim, Director of CPA's Transport Department, on Tuesday afternoon.

The notification stated that the four-fold store rent, which was applicable to Chattogram Port and Kamalapur ICD in Dhaka, was also imposed on Pangaon ICT on March 10 this year. However, in order to ensure uninterrupted services and maintain the operational activities of the port, the four-fold store rent on FCL containers has been temporarily suspended from August 23, 2025, to September 22, 2025.

It is important to note that this suspension does not apply to empty containers. The decision to suspend the four-fold store rent was made in response to requests from various business organizations, including the Bangladesh Garments Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA).

Port authorities have advised importers to promptly collect their containers to ensure the smooth functioning of the port.

BGMEA First Vice President and KDS Group Managing Director Selim Rahman expressed understanding of the fee increase but emphasized the need for prior discussion.

He acknowledged the constraints faced by the port due to regulatory requirements and industry concerns. Rahman also highlighted the importance of container awareness among garment owners to facilitate port operations. Additionally, he appreciated the port's decision to suspend additional storage fees for a month.
