DHAKA, Feb 18, 2026 (BSS)— The Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority (BEZA) and MEP Hi-Tech Industrial Park Limited today formalized a land lease agreement to establish a modern electrical goods manufacturing cluster at the National Special Economic Zone (NSEZ) in Mirsharai, Chattogram.
Under the agreement, the company has been allocated 10 acres of land to set up a state-of-the-art facility involving a total domestic investment of TK 200 crore.
The proposed industrial cluster is set to become a specialized hub for a diverse range of electrical and electronic products. The production line will include domestic, High Tension (HT), and Low Tension (LT) electrical wires and cables, various models of switches and sockets, fans, LED lights, and circuit breakers.
Furthermore, the plant will manufacture Compact Fluorescent Lamps (CFL), commonly known as energy-saving lamps, and PVC pipes, leveraging the company’s extensive experience in the sector to serve both local and international markets.
According to the project roadmap, MEP Hi-Tech Industrial Park Limited plans to commence implementation work in April 2026. The construction phase is expected to be completed by December 2028, with the company aiming to start commercial production in January 2029. Once the plant is fully operational, the venture is projected to create direct and indirect employment opportunities for approximately 2,000 people.
Speaking at the signing ceremony held at the BEZA office, Additional Secretary and BEZA Executive Member (Investment Promotion) Saleh Ahmad hailed the investment, noting that the participation of prominent domestic industrial groups like MEP Group is crucial for reducing the country's import dependency.
He emphasized that such projects play a vital role in export diversification and technology-driven industrialization.
Hailing the commitment of the investors, he urged the group to expedite the establishment of the manufacturing unit to contribute to the national economy.
MEP Group Managing Director Jahangir Alam Chaklader stated that the group is preparing to build a modern, technology-based, and environment-friendly industry with BEZA's cooperation.
He highlighted that the project would serve as a significant import substitute for electrical goods and is expected to make a substantial contribution to the country’s export earnings in future.
The agreement was signed by Saleh Ahmad on behalf of BEZA and Shakil Alam Chaklader, Chairman of MEP Group, representing the investor.
Established in 1974, MEP Group has built a formidable reputation in Bangladesh’s electrical and electronics landscape. The group currently maintains a corporate client base of approximately 2,000 and a distribution network spanning over 1,000 points nationwide.
