CHATTOGRAM, April 6, 2026 (BSS) - The Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and
Exporters Association (BGMEA) has reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that
no small or medium-sized garment factory in the country is forced to close
due to current economic pressures.

This assurance was given during a discussion meeting titled "Challenges and
Actions of BGMEA with SME Owners" held on Sunday at the BGMEA regional office
in Chattogram, said a press release today.

The meeting, presided over by BGMEA First Vice President Syed Nazrul Islam,
focused on the existing challenges, potential, and necessary actions for
Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) owners within the apparel industry.

During the session, speakers highlighted that the country's banking sector is
currently undergoing a difficult period, which has significantly impacted
SMEs.

They noted that the recent merging of several banks has slowed down banking
activities, leading to difficulties in opening Back-to-Back Letters of Credit
(LCs) and securing necessary financing.

Syed Nazrul Islam stated that despite global economic slowdowns, rising
production costs, and complex banking and NBR procedures, the SME sector
remains a vital pillar for employment and foreign exchange earnings.

He assured owners that BGMEA is working tirelessly to ensure not a single
factory closes and is providing various support measures, including salary
support and credit guarantee facilities.

The meeting was attended by BGMEA Vice President Rakibul Alam, Directors Md.
M. Mohiuddin Chowdhury and Md. Saif Ullah Mansur, along with former leaders
and a large number of SME owners.
