RAB arrests rapist from Ashulia in Dhaka

RANGPUR, Jan 8, 2025 (BSS) - The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested a person from the Tongibari area in Ashulia, on the outskirts of the capital city of Dhaka, on charges of raping and abducting a girl.

"The arrested is Md Sohag Mian, 25, son of Md Momin Ali of village Chandrapur in Kaliganj upazila of Lalmonirhat district," said a press release issued here today.

On a tip-off, an operational team of the Crime Prevention Company (CPC) of RAB-13 with the CPC-2 of RAB-4 at Savar, conducted a raid in the Tongibari area and arrested the prime accused, Sohag Mian, on Tuesday afternoon.

Later, the accused has been handed over to Kaliganj police station.
According to the case statement, the accused along with his two accomplices abducted the victim from in front of her uncle's house located at Kaliganj upazila of Lalmonirhat on October 6, 2024.
 
Sohag Mian then raped and later left her in front of her father's house at night of the same day, said the release.

Later, the victim filed a case with the Kaliganj police station in Lalmonirhat.

As the incident created a sensation in the area and eventually it came to the notice of the CPC-2 of the Nilphamari Camp of RAB-13.

Alongside the police, CPC-2 of RAB-13 enforced intelligence activities and started a shadow investigation into the case to nab the absconding accused rapist, added the press release.
